Queen City Audio Video & Appliances Commemorates 70 Years of Achievement

Posted June 27th, 2022

CHARLOTTE, NC, June 21, 2022 - Queen City Audio Video & Appliances is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its founding. What started in 1952 as a simple television repair company has evolved into the Piedmont region’s premier retail organization for a large range of home appliances and electronics, including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, cooktops, ovens, kitchen cleanup, laundry, TV, audio, grills/outdoor kitchens and more. And in celebration of its achievements, Queen City is hosting a series of community events and promotions this summer.

“It's always been about our people and their commitment to serving customers that have led to our success,” says Roddey Player, president and CEO of Queen City Audio Video & Appliances. “The biggest thing to impact our business in the last 20 years was adding our new 104,000 sq. ft. distribution facility. It has given Queen City's customers access to over $26 million in local inventory, despite the incredibly difficult supply chain issues felt across the globe.”

Then and Now

From the early days of the company in the 1960s and 1970s, the demand for home appliances grew. And this presented Queen City with an opportunity to become an integral part of the community by providing the essential appliances everyone needed.

A decade later, the 1990s saw tremendous growth in the custom home building community, and Queen City invested in showrooms to become the undisputed choice for Charlotte's leading home builders, remodelers and designers, using premium stainless steel professional appliances to outfit this new market.

Today, grills and mattresses are part of the product mix at all six store locations, with a full furniture offering at Queen City Home Store on furniture row in Pineville, North Carolina. As a three-generation family business, Roddey Player runs the business along with his mother, daughter and son.

“It’s the people that really get things done,” Player explains. “A highly trained and committed team to help each and every guest find the right product at the right price by giving them real answers. That’s our guarantee.”
