What started in 1952 as a simple television repair company has evolved into the Piedmont region's premier retail organization for a large range of home appliances and electronics, including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, cooktops, ovens, kitchen cleanup, laundry, TV, audio, grills/outdoor kitchens and more.

Founder Woody Player
Founded in July, 1952 by Woody Player, as Queen City Television Service Company, we began as a TV repair business.
Expanded in Charlotte with two new stores and the addition of appliances.
The second generation of the Player family entered the company.
Developed a Builder/ Contract sales division
Added a Builder showroom to aid in Builder/ Contract sales division with premium appliances.
Established a central distribution center.
Improved customer experience through enhanced product displays.
Created retail sales division flagship store located on Queen City Drive.
Major showroom expansion that more than doubled in size.
We started selling mattresses.
Opened what is currently Queen City’s 6th location in Pineville, NC on furniture row. Expanded our line-up to include furniture (in addition to appliances) at the first Queen City Home Store.
The third generation of the Player family entered the company.
Queen City launches new online experience with website redesign and e-commerce implementation. Making this our 7th “store.”
Due to tremendous growth and the addition of our distribution partners, Queen City invested in a new 104,000 square foot warehouse and corporate office space in Charlotte.
We opened our new Outlet Store in our old warehouse space on Queen City Dr.
In 2022, Queen City celebrated our 70th Anniversary with charity events, community giveaways, and a look back at the tremendous growth accomplished. Queen City now serves the entire DMA with a warehouse and 7 stores in Charlotte, Pineville, Monroe, Salisbury, Morganton, and Winston-Salem, NC.
Queen City continues to expand into the North Carolina Triad by merging with Hart Appliance Center of Greensboro. This becomes our 8th store location and enables us to create an enhanced shopping experience with a larger selection for the Triad.
